A new rule is only useful when someone owns the response

A practical path from a source and a company fact to a named action, decision and record.

Start with applicability

A regulatory update is not yet a task. First record the source, the change and the part of your business it might affect. If it does not apply, record who made that assessment and why. If it does, identify the policy, control, process or team that needs to respond.

Give the response an owner

Turn the impact into a specific action. Name one person who owns the next step, the output they need to produce and a date for review. Keep the source and company context beside the task. That lets the person doing the work answer the question behind it, instead of starting their own search.

Close the loop with a decision

The owner can prepare evidence and propose a response. A person with the right authority reviews consequential changes and records the decision. Attach the updated policy, completed check or other evidence to the same record. The next review then starts with what happened, not an empty spreadsheet.

Try this now: Choose one recent change. Can you point to its source, the affected activity, the owner, the next action and the evidence of completion? The missing link is a useful place to start.
