A beneficial owner is the natural person who ultimately owns or controls a company or arrangement — typically through more than 25 percent of shares or votes, or through other means of control. Anti-money-laundering law requires obliged entities to identify and verify beneficial owners behind their customers, and companies to register theirs; in Sweden the register is kept by Bolagsverket.
