Gap analysis

Published Reviewed

A gap analysis is the structured comparison of an organisation’s current state against the requirements of a framework, law, or standard, producing the list of differences that must be closed. It is usually the first project step toward any certification or new regulation: each requirement is mapped to existing controls and evidence, gaps are rated, and the result becomes the remediation plan with owners and dates.
