General-purpose AI model (GPAI)

A general-purpose AI model is a model trained on broad data at scale that can competently perform a wide range of tasks and be integrated into many downstream systems — the category covering large language models. The EU AI Act gives their providers transparency and copyright-related duties, and adds stricter obligations, including safety evaluations and incident reporting, for models designated as carrying systemic risk.
