Legitimate interest
Published Reviewed
Legitimate interest is one of the GDPR’s six lawful bases: processing is allowed when it is necessary for a genuine interest of the controller or a third party, and that interest is not overridden by the individual’s rights and freedoms. Relying on it requires a documented balancing test, and it is never available for processing that the person would not reasonably expect or can easily be asked to consent to.
