Nonconformity

A nonconformity is a failure to fulfil a requirement of a standard, regulation, or the organisation’s own management system, recorded during an audit or internal review. Certification bodies grade them: a major nonconformity threatens the certificate and demands corrective action before or shortly after certification, a minor one requires a corrective plan followed up at the next audit. The response that matters is root-cause correction, not patching the single instance.
