Standard contractual clauses (SCCs)

Standard contractual clauses are the European Commission’s pre-approved contract terms that make transfers of personal data to countries outside the EU/EEA lawful in the absence of an adequacy decision. The clauses come in modules for the controller and processor combinations involved and cannot be negotiated away. Since the Schrems II judgment, using SCCs also requires a transfer impact assessment of the destination country’s laws.
