Essential and important entities
Published Reviewed
Essential and important entities are the two categories of organisations in scope of NIS2, decided by sector and size. Both carry the same core duties — risk management measures, incident reporting, and management accountability — but essential entities face proactive supervision and higher maximum penalties, while important entities are supervised reactively. Classification is self-assessed first and registered with the national authority.
