Sanctions screening
Published Reviewed
Sanctions screening is checking customers, counterparties, owners, and transactions against sanctions lists — EU consolidated lists, UN lists, and others relevant to the business — both at onboarding and continuously as lists change. EU sanctions apply to all EU persons and companies, not only banks, so exporters and traders need screening tied to ownership data, since a counterparty majority-owned by a listed person is itself off-limits.
